Hike Less Than 5 Miles To These Spectacular Hot Springs In Idaho

Discover multiple hot springs along the Moondipper and Pine Burl Hot Spring Trail in Idaho's Boise National Forest.

There is something extra relaxing about soaking in a hot spring while surrounded by nature. The Moondipper Hot Spring and Pine Burl Hot Spring Trail near Cascade will take you not only to one hot spring where you can soak away life’s worries but also to multiple other hot springs. Even better, this hot spring hike isn’t that difficult and is less than five miles long. Doesn’t that sound like the perfect adventure?

This hot spring trail takes you through the Boise National Forest near Cascade. You will find the trailhead near the Boiling Springs Campground.

This is an out-and-back trail that is approximately 4.7 miles. Although if you don’t want to travel that far, the first hot spring is just a short trek from the trailhead.

If you plan to bring children along, be aware that it isn’t uncommon for many individuals to soak with no clothing.

This trail is rated as moderately challenging, as you will have some steep inclines to tackle. Be careful of this trail in the middle of winter, as these inclines can become icy and slick. This trail is best explored between April and November.

As you hike, you will first come to Boiling Springs. This hot spring is a nice soaking temperature, but it can become quite busy. If you want to get away from some of the crowd, we recommend you continue on your way.

A majority of this trail takes you right through the forest and provides plenty of shade. It also follows the river, giving you some pretty incredible views.

Continue on your way until you reach Moondipper Hot Springs. These hot springs tend to be a bit hhott so always make sure to check the temperature before hopping in.

Just around the bend from these hot springs is the Pine Burl Hot Springs, offering just one more hot spring option. But regardless of the hot springs you choose to soak and relax in, you’ll be surrounded by Idaho’s natural beauty and receive some pretty extraordinary views.

With multiple hot springs on a single trail, you are given plenty of opportunities to relax, soak, and just enjoy your day.

While this hot spring hike can draw quite a crowd, please pack out everything you pack in. There are many reports of extensive littering along this trail and near each hot spring.
