There is something special about stepping foot inside a library. The
hundreds of books on the shelves are each inviting you to escape reality
and enter a whole new world. While there are some pretty incredible
libraries all throughout the Gem State that offer a place of quiet,
learning, and reading, there is one library that seems to stand above
the rest — the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.
Located on Front Avenue in downtown Coeur d’Alene is this public library that is quite eye-catching.
In 1904, the Coeur d’Alene
Woman’s Club was established with one purpose: to sponsor a public
library for the city. There were 48 women who were dedicated to this
cause.
In February of 1905, the club began
gathering books for the library, and by April, this city’s public
library first opened its doors in the store of E.B. Keller and Company.
The library had its ups and
downs over the years, but by 1927, library records show that it had more
than 15,500 patrons. In 2007, the dedication was held for the new Coeur
d’Alene Public Library, which is the beautiful building you can enter
today.
On the outside of the building, you’ll find incredible statues that each tell their own story.
On the inside, you’ll also find
large and inspiring sculptures and features that will capture the hearts
of both the young and young at heart.
But, the shelves of books are
the main attraction here. No matter what specific genre you are
searching for, you’ll likely find it here.
The Coeur d’Alene Library also
hosts events all year long from story times and workshops to book
signings with popular authors. There really is something for every
member of the family.
There are even a variety of services that patrons can enjoy from 3-D printing to a full computer lab.
If you are searching for a little
extra help downloading electronic books, receiving book recommendations,
or working on a document in the computer lab, you can even schedule a
librarian to assist with this library's book-a-librarian service.
Whether you are a book lover or
you simply want someplace new to explore and learn, the beautiful Coeur
d’Alene library should be at the top of the list. It really is a fun day
trip destination filled with much to see, things to do, and so many
literary treasures.
Is there another standout library in the Gem State? If so, let us
know in the comments! And, if you are looking for something else to do
while in northern Idaho, take a drive on the gorgeous Lake Coeur d’Alene Scenic Byway.

This may come as a surprise, but there aren't too many mainstream songs out there written about our beautiful state. Apparently, everyone's exes live in Texas or something like that... Not that we mind! The fewer people who know about our slice of paradise, the better, right? Regardless, when a good song about Idaho comes on the radio or personal playlist, we can't help but wax a little nostalgic. Today, we've been able to dig up 15 tunes that capture the spirit of Idaho in their own unique way. Have a listen! 1. "Idaho" - Reckless Kelly (2013) "Because he's an Idaho cowboy/no Tennessee plow-boy / He's wild as the Rockies he rides." This popular alternative country group made every heart melt with this song. It sure does capture the spirit of the mountain-loving Idahoan, doesn't it? 2. "Idaho" - Feeder (2012) "I may find a better view, find a better... view / Idaho." Feeder is a British (Welsh) rock band that has bee...
Casa Loma (Spanish for "Hill House") is a Gothic Revival castle-style mansion and garden in midtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada, that is now a historic house museum and landmark. It was constructed from 1911 to 1914 as a residence for financier Sir Henry Pellatt. The architect was E. J. Lennox, who designed several other city landmarks. Casa Loma sits at an elevation of 140 meters (460 ft) above sea level, 66 meters (217 ft) above Lake Ontario. Due to its unique architectural character in Toronto, Casa Loma has been a popular filming location for movies and television. It is also a popular venue for wedding ceremonies, and Casa Loma can be rented in the evenings after the museum closes to the public. History In 1903, financier Henry Pellatt purchased 25 lots from developers Kertland and Rolf. Pellatt commissioned architect E. J. Lennox to design Casa Loma, with construction beginning in 1911, starting with the massive stables, potting shed, and Hunting Lodge (a.k.a...
A photo can tell us a lot about life decades ago. It can provide details that are hard to describe with words. Idaho is the location of millions of stories. It has a history that is intriguing, fascinating, and engaging. We’ve gathered nine photos of Idaho from the 1960s that tell some of these stories. These photos provide details that are simply mesmerizing. 1. The logs were then carried down the river to the mills in the Kaniksu National Forest in Idaho. This photo dates back to 1961. 2.
