When you think of museums in Idaho, there are several that may come to mind like the Potato Museum and the Museum of Clean — both extremely unique and bucket-list worthy. But did you know that the Gem State is also home to a museum with one of the country’s largest war memorabilia collections? The Warhawk Air Museum, located in Nampa, teaches you all about the American experience during past wars. At this museum, you’ll not only learn all about these crucial times in America’s history but you’ll be impressed with the incredible collections as well.

The Warhawk Air Museum is an aviation museum that began in the late 1900s.

This museum originally began in an airplane hangar at the Caldwell airport when John Paul began restoring a World War II-era airplane. People were fascinated with the project and began donating all types of memorabilia. It wasn’t until 2000 when there were so many unique and fascinating pieces of history that the current museum was established.

The Warhawk Air Museum is certainly not small. This is a 40,000-square-foot museum that is packed with pieces of history in all shapes and sizes. This museum houses one of the country’s largest war memorabilia collections and it is impressive.

All of the items found in this museum represent the American experience during multiple wars including World War I, World War II, Cold War, Korean War, and Vietnam War. Many of the items tell stories about the men, women, and children who lived through each of these historic events.

In fact, many of the items found in this museum are some you cannot find anywhere else in the country.

You’ll want to spend some time learning about each and every plane on display. Several of the planes are so unique that there are only a few remaining in the entire world! They are also so perfectly restored and cared for that it is hard to believe they are decades old.

When you visit, give yourself plenty of time to explore. Not only is this museum large, but most displays provide specific information about the items and even the people who donated them. You will walk away from this museum learning so much.
